The Brazos Valley Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a regional CERT program established in 2002, with a focus on preparing citizens to primarily help themselves, and their neighbors in a disaster. We have trained numerous teams with hundreds of members. We cover the 7 counties that make up the Brazos Valley Council of Governments, Brazos, Washington, Burleson, Robertson, Leon, Madison and Grimes. We also offer a basic Disaster Preparedness Class that includes a free family first aid kit upon completion.
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
Mass shooting is getting closer, with the right training you can save a life.
Trauma is the leading cause of death in Americans for those under age 46. Life-threatening emergencies can happen fast and emergency responders aren’t always nearby. A recent example would be the El Paso, Tx Shooting. You may be able to save a life by taking simple actions immediately. Know what to look for and being able to do something about the injury. Literally, you are the help until help arrives.
